About Mark
My Story
I was born in Nevada, but was primarily raised in Oregon. I attended Judson Baptist College in Portland, OR, Moody Bible institute in Chicago and Multnomah Seminary in Portland, OR. After Moody I ended up serving in a small Church in New Brunswick, Canada, where I also met my wife, Barbara. Through over 45 years of Pastoral ministry we’ve lived in 4 Provinces in Canada and 2 States and I’ve served the Lord in 8 Churches. While in Pastoral ministry I was also an Associate Church Planter with E3Partner’s Ministry for over 20 years serving mostly in South America.
The Lord blessed us with 3 boys and now 5 grandsons. We’ve seen the hand of God working each step of the way and feel so blessed.
Life has brought moments of joy, unexpected loss, and seasons of deep sorrow that challenged everything I believed. Through every trial, I discovered God faithfully working behind the scenes, even when I could not understand His purpose. Writing Shining Light Into The Darkness became a way to share that journey and encourage others facing similar struggles. My hope is that readers will find comfort, renewed faith, and confidence that God never leaves us, even in our darkest moments.
My Approach & Values
I believe every person’s story matters and that God can bring hope through every circumstance. My approach is rooted in biblical truth, compassion, honesty, and encouragement. Through sharing my experiences, I seek to inspire others to trust God’s faithfulness, embrace His promises, and find peace, strength, and purpose even during life’s most difficult seasons. Although this book is rooted in the loss of our Son by suicide, this is not a book about suicide, but it rather a look at how God is working in all the circumstances of our lives, good and bad.
